HLTAID001
Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Mode of Delivery: Face to face training in classroom environment
Course Duration: 3.5 hours
Assessments: Written, practical and scenario-based assessments
Certificate valid for: 12 months from date of successful course completion
Course Content
- Recognise an emergency situation
- Identify, assess and minimise immediate hazards to health and safety of self and other
- Assess the casualty and recognise the need for CPR
- Seek assistance from emergency response service
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with ARC guidelines
- Display respectful behaviour towards the casualty
- Operate automated external defibrillator (AED) according to manufacturer’s instructions
- Accurately convey incident details to emergency response services
- Report details of the incident to workplace supervisor as appropriate
- Maintain confidentiality of records and information in line with statutory and/or organisational policies
Students attending the course will be required to demonstrate their physical ability to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor to meet the performance criteria for assessment.

HLTAID002
Provide basic emergency life support
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Mode of Delivery: Face to face training in classroom environment
Course Duration: 8 hours on course.
Certificate valid for: Three (3) years
Course Content
- Recognise an emergency situation
- Identify, assess and minimise immediate hazards to health and safety of self and others
- Assess the casualty and recognise the need for first aid response
- Assess the situation and seek assistance from emergency response services
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with ARC guidelines
- Provide first aid in accordance with established first aid principles
- Display respectful behaviour towards casualty
- Obtain consent from casualty where possible
- Use available resources and equipment to make the casualty as comfortable as possible
- Operate first aid equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
- Monitor the casualty’s condition and respond in accordance with first aid principles
- Accurately convey incident details to emergency response services
- Report details of incident to workplace supervisor as appropriate
- Maintain confidentiality of records and information in line with statutory and/or organisational policie.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Mode of Delivery: Theoretical pre-course theory, face to face training in classroom environment with theoretical
Certificate valid: Three (3) years
Course Duration: 8 hours on course with pre-course reading and knowledge requirements pre-assessment
Course Content:
- Recognise an emergency situation
- Identify, assess and manage immediate hazards to health and safety of self and others
- Assess the casualty and recognise the need for first aid response
- Assess the situation and seek assistance from emergency response services
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with
- Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines
- Provide first aid in accordance with established first aid principles
- Display respectful behaviour towards the casualty
- Obtain consent from casualty where possible
- Use available resources and equipment to make the casualty as comfortable as possible
- Operate first aid equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
- Monitor the casualty’s condition and respond in accordance with first aid principles
- Accurately convey incident details to emergency response services

- Recognise the possible psychological impacts on self and other rescuers involved in critical incidents
- Participate in debriefing to address individual needs
This is the current industry standard course for most workplaces including mining, electrical, optometrists and many more.

HLTAID004
Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting
This course is designed for those who require a first aid qualification in order to care for children in either a professional, volunteer or personal basis.
This course is suited for parents, early childhood workers or childcare workers undertaking a certificate or diploma qualification in the child care industry.
Valid for three (3) years.
Course Duration: 8 hours on course with pre-reading and pre-exam.
No pre-requisite is required for this course.

HLTPAT005
Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing
Each participant will acquire the skills and knowledge required to confirm collection requirements, prepare client and equipment and collects specimens via urine, oral and breathe testing following the special procedures that apply for drugs of abuse testing.
